It is no secret that at some time or another, most guys playing MMORPGs (massively multiplayer online role playing game) are going to create, and play, a female character. But it is not safe to assume that all female characters have a guy behind the keyboard because there are a fair number of women that also play these kinds of games.

Game developers have designed games with attractive female characters who have plenty of sex appeal. The result from this is twofold. First, male players are attracted to playing female characters because they are curious, or they believe that female toons have an advantage over males or they’re living out some deeply repressed fantasy by adopting a female character and persona. Secondly, women players are attracted to female toons in part to have the sex appeal that they feel they may be lacking in real life.

Female players and female toons with sex appeal are an integral part to any successful MMORPG, and statistics show that four out of 10 players are bona fide females. This means that women players are not as mythical as Dell coupons. It is no longer safe to assume that behind every female toon is a teenage boy.

This kind of gender unawareness has made for interesting game play dynamics. It has in many ways, created an equal playing field. Guys that play female toons to gain an advantage by playing helpless females are as often scorned and ignored as not. And female players can develop their toons to play the role of aggressive tank which is stereotypically a guy thing.

So if you’re a gal and want to explore a MMORPG, go ahead. Play that uber-sexy toon, buff her up to be a formidable tank and show the guys who can be boss. Play your character right and they need never know who is really behind the keyboard.
